"Painting is Dead" 2008 by Susannah Hewlett
This work was made specifically for exhibition IMPLANT, curated by The Horticultural Society of New York (UBS Art Gallery, New York, August 7 – October 31, 2008)

This work was also part of REDUX at The Horticultural Society, New York| in 2009

The work is another reincarnation of the hackneyed theoretical statement that ‘painting is dead’. The demise of painting claim has been postulated at regular intervals since the middle of the 19th century and like a bad joke this work purposely regurgitates it once again – finally trying to lay it to rest in the form of a funeral wreath.
